God Rest our Diamond Queen
During this time of national mourning, I thought I would put up some links to the Royal Family and Government websites. There is a link on the Royal Family website to an online book of condolence. On the Church of England website, you can light a virtual candle.
On Sunday 18th September there will be a national minute of silence at 8pm.

New for August in my Etsy Shop
Finally some rain and cooler air today after the baking heat of the weekend! Looking forward to the cooler days and warm colours of Autumn and Winter with some new products in my Etsy shop.
As the cost of living rises, I've tried to keep my prices as low as possible for original, one-off items and paintings so it's easy to refresh a room scheme, find a handmade gift or top your Christmas decorations.

My Summer Art Exhibition
Shadows, frost, mist and sunshine.
Last year's leaves, this year's light.
Mixed media - Watercolour, collage and thread.
Watercolour and pencil on traditionally made linen/cotton paper.
I have been growing this little hornbeam tree for years. It has never been wired and only occasionally pruned and has grown to its shape by the passage of our lives (kids footballs, basketballs, chewing pets, parties, storms, snow, heatwaves...) It has become a garden friend and each Spring I look forward to the point that the leaf buds break.
I thought I'd try painting/sketching it this year: the shadows, branch shapes and moss feel like a landscape I know well.
Watercolour on linen rag paper
Moments windblown
Petals on the lawn
Based on a landscape poem from last year, this watercolour is inspired
by the gardens at Hestercombe.
With this watercolour I've used repeating blocks of abstract colour,
a bit like the process of batik, to echo the repetition of the trees and build up
the image. Based on a view at Hestercombe Gardens in Somerset.

In the garden today...
This was meant to be a post about what is flowering now in the garden but I was completely side-tracked by birdwatching...

Signs of Spring in the Garden
A few days of bright, sunny weather has allowed the ground to dry out enough to mow. Lovely to see some signs of Spring emerging, bulbs, buds, heathers and herbs all beginning to grow away. A chance to finish clearing up sticks and branches from the storms last week, luckily no major damage.
