Why we can't afford to ignore making sure the UK has sustainable independent, green power generation...

I was depressed to read on the BBC site that the gas pipelines were shut by Russia to the the Ukraine. Apparently the two countries have failed to agree their new supply contracts but, as usual, it won't be those at the top of these corporations that suffer but the consumer/householder who has no control over who supplies them their gas and is now left, presumably, wondering how long before their heat runs out. Temps in the Ukraine at the moment are around -8C.
The UK should never be in the position where our power supply is subject to the vagiaries of either political or financial posturing by large corporations but should be affordable, sustainable and available for all. Like water, it is not a luxury but a necessity.

Xmas card recycling scheme (don't forget the stamps!)

The Woodland Trust are running their Xmas card recycling scheme again and full details can be found here, just take all your old cards to participating shops such as WHSmith and M&S and pop them in the bins between 2nd and 31st January. Don't forget, as I've blogged before, the RSPB would love all your stamps to help save the albatross. Send your stamps here. (Please help save these longbirds.)

Happy New Year!
