Sad news

I have just turned on the tv to hear of the sad loss of Ivan Cameron. My sympathy to the family at this time.

After mentioning the National Trust in the last blog, it seems a bit unfair to do it again so quickly but now term's started I've caught up with the first couple of episodes of Sissinghurst on BBC4. An interesting look at how to modernise public gardens to keep pace with society's trends, you can read about it here and here. Sissinghurst is a garden I've never visited despite being reasonably near as it always fell into the category of too pristine and formal for such a rowdy gaggle as we were when still with prams and yelling tots. I was interested to learn the Vita Sackville-West was from Knole in Sevenoaks, an altogether more congenial place and great for picnics. It will be interesting to follow the progress at Sissinghurst and see whether it will be worth putting on the 'one to visit' list. (Particularly loved the bit about the salad dressing being left on the table to make your own - some of us prefer mayonnaise with our chips! ;)
