The Big Butterfly Count

Small white feeding on nettle

Finally, the longer spells of  hot, dry weather have brought more butterflies into the garden from the woods. There have been fleeting glimpses of ringlets, red admirals, small tortoiseshells and commas as well as a flurry of small and large whites. Of course, getting photos of them for this blog is quite another matter!
Next week I am planning a butterfly count for the Big Butterfly Count survey, a national survey that helps to assess the health of our environment. Details of where, how and why can be found here. I am hoping that the buddleja and honeysuckle will be in full bloom before the end date of the survey as it's much easier to both count and photograph butterflies when they are busy feeding!

Pacific Rim and Searching for Sugar Man Movie Reviews

Pacific Rim 3D (12A)

Director: Guillermo Del Toro
Website: Pacific Rim

Godzilla meets Transformers in 3D. Four out of five stars.
(Is that my shortest review yet? Enjoyable monster mayhem and a good diversion to extreme weather outside. Would have liked to have seen this done as a manga anime.)

Searching for Sugar Man DVD (12)

Director/Producer: Malik Bendjelloul
Website: Searching for Sugar Man

Completely uplifting documentary movie about the search for a singer/songwriter called Rodriguez. The first ten minutes are a little confusing so stick with it, it's best thing I've seen for ages. A big, warm, huggable five out of five stars.
